February 16, 2021 — A pressure cooker lawsuit has been filed by a woman from New York who was burned by a Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker that exploded when she opened the lid.
The lawsuit was filed by Mirsada M., a woman who suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” on February 23, 2018, as a result of being able to open the lid on her pressure cooker before it was safe.
The lawsuit claims the Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker is dangerously defective because its so-called “safety” features do not lock the lid.
Instead, unsuspecting consumers are able to easily open the lid when there is still built-up pressure, heat, and steam inside the unit.
This can cause its “scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and onto anyone standing near it, the lawsuit claims.
According to the complaint:
“When the lid is removed under such circumstances, the pressure trapped within the unit causes the scalding hot contents to be projected from the unit and unto the surrounding area.”
The lawsuit accuses the manufacturer of putting profits over safety by selling defective pressure cookers, failing to warn consumers about the risk, and failing to recall the Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker.
The Fagor EZ Lock Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on February 3, 2021 against Zavor America Inc. (d/b/a Fecna America Inc., f/k/a Fagor America Inc.) in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York — Case Number 1:21-cv-00562.
