August 10, 2022 — A woman from Arkansas who was burned by a Philippe Richard Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
The plaintiff, India S., is a woman from Wynne, Arkansas, who claims that she was burned on November 28, 2016 while using her Philippe Richard Pressure Cooker (Model Number YPC-1301).
According to the lawsuit, she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” as a result of the “pressure cooker’s lid suddenly and unexpectedly exploding off the pressure cooker’s pot.”
The pressure remaining inside the pot caused its “scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and all over her body, resulting in her severe burn injuries.
She accuses the manufacturer, Tabletops Unlimited Inc., of misleading her about the safety features of the Philippe Richard Pressure Cooker.
Specifically, she claims that it was misleadingly advertised to include an “auto-lock system” and “triple safety features,” which failed to function as advertised.
Instead, she claims that the pressure cooker is defective and unreasonably dangerous for its intended use.
“[Philippe Richard Pressure Cookers] possess defects that make them unreasonably dangerous for their intended use by consumers because the lid can be rotated and opened while the unit remains pressurized.”
The Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on August 1, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas (Northern Division) — Case 3:22-cv-00198-KGB.
