March 28, 2023 — A woman who was burned on her chest by a pressure cooker has filed a lawsuit against Cuisinart.
The plaintiff, Victoria L., is a resident of Mississippi who alleges that she was burned by a “dangerously defective” Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker (Model CPC-600) on April 3, 2020, according to the lawsuit.
She claims she was able to easily twist open the lid on her pressure cooker when the unit was still pressurized, which caused the scalding-hot contents to be ejected out of the pot and onto her chest.
She claims she suffered “catastrophic burn injuries” that resulted in significant and painful bodily injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, mental anguish, and diminished enjoyment of life.
In her lawsuit, she accuses Cuisinart of misleading consumers about the safety features on the Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker.
Her lawsuit cites the Owner’s Manual, which has many statements advertising the built-in safety features.
Examples include: “The lid cannot be opened if the appliance is filled with pressure,” and “The lid is double-locked and cannot be opened.”
She claims that these statements about “safety” are not just misleading, they are flatly wrong, and put innocent consumers like herself directly in harm’s way.
The lawsuit was filed against Conair Corporation (d/b/a Cuisinart) on March 27, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut — Case Number 3:23-cv-00373-SVN.
