December 11, 2024 — A woman from Ohio who was burned by a Crock-Pot has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturers, Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands.
The manufacturers are accused of selling a defective and “unreasonably dangerous” product that is linked to serious injuries.
The plaintiff, Jazmin P., is a resident of Ohio who was burned on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022, when she opened the lid on her Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker (Model #CCPPC 600-V1)
She claims that she encountered no resistance when she tried to open the lid, and it twisted open — but unfortunately, it was still pressurized.
The sudden release of pressure also ejected scalding-hot food and liquid out of the Crock-Pot, causing her to suffer painful burn injuries.
Her lawsuit blames these injuries on defective safety features. In 2020, Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands recalled over 900,000 Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cookers after receiving 99 reports of people who were burned when they opened the lid, including severe 3rd-degree burn injuries.
The Crock-Pot Lawsuit was filed against Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands on December 2, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio — Case Number 1:24-cv-02088.
