January 31, 2024 — A man from Georgia who bought a recalled Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cooker has filed a class action lawsuit against Best Buy.
The class action was filed by George D., a man who alleges that his Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cooker was “defective, dangerous, inoperable, and worthless” due to incorrect markings on the inner pot.
His pressure cooker was recalled in October 2023 because the incorrect markings could cause users to over-fill the pot, resulting in an explosion of burning-hot food and liquid.
At least 17 people were burned by a recalled Insignia Pressure Cooker, according to the recall notice. These injuries included severe 2nd-degree and 3rd-degree burns, which can cause scarring.
The recall involves the following types of Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers:
- Insignia 6-qt. Multi-Cooker: NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, NS-MC60SS9-C
- Insignia 8-qt. Multi-Cooker: NS-MC80SS9, NS-80SS9-C
- Inner cooker pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9, sold separately as replacements.
The lawsuit claims that correct volume markings on the inner pot of a pressure cooker is “the most basic safety precaution” and “utterly critical” to prevent explosions hot food and liquid.
The Class Action Lawsuit was filed on January 5, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia — Case Number 4:24-cv-00007-WMR.
