March 4, 2025 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman who was burned by an Insignia Pressure Cooker that was recalled by Best Buy.
The plaintiff, a woman from Baltimore, Maryland, purchased the pressure cooker from Best Buy. She claims that she was burned in September 2022, about one year before the product was recalled.
Best Buy recalled about 900,000 Insignia 6-Qt. Multi-Function Pressure Cookers in October 2023 due to a risk of burn injuries.
The recall warned about “31 reports of incidents in which the contents were expelled under pressure, including 17 reports of burn injuries, some of which involved reports of second-degree and severe burns.”
According to her lawsuit, the defective lid failed to lock and prevent her from opening the pressure cooker while it was still pressurized.
As soon as she opened the lid, built-up pressure burst out of the pot and ejected the scalding-hot contents of the pressure cooker onto her body, resulting in “serious and substantial burn injuries.”
Best Buy is accused of manufacturing and selling pressure cookers that are defective and unreasonably dangerous for their intended use.
Her lawsuit was filed against Best Buy, a Minnesota-based corporation, on February 5, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:25-cv-00441.
