April 12, 2023 — A woman who was burned by her Crock-Pot MINI Multi-Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
The plaintiff, Melanie P., is a woman from South Carolina who alleges that she was severely burned in March 2020.
She claims she was using a defective Crock-Pot 4-Quart Multi-Use MINI Express Crock Programmable Slow Cooker and Pressure Cooker (Model Number SCCPPC400-DS).
A few months after she was injured, the manufacturer recalled a very similar product — the Crock-Pot Express Crock Pressure Cooker (Model SCCPPC600-V1) — which was linked to 99 burn injuries.
Her lawsuit alleges that Sunbeam Products put consumers in harm’s way by selling pressure cookers with a weak interlock system, which created a vacuum and caused the lid to cling to the inner pot.”
This safety defect allowed “its scalding hot contents to spill out of the pressure cooker and onto Plaintiff when the vacuum seal released.”
She is seeking damages for her economic and non-economic losses, including medical expenses related to her injuries, pain and suffering, decreased enjoyment of life, and more.
Her lawsuit was filed against Sunbeam Products Inc. March 20, 2023 in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial District (Palm Beach County, Florida) — Filing #169086806.
