May 30, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman from Ohio who was burned by a GoWISE Pressure Cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by Erika W., a woman from Cleveland who alleges that she was severely burned in July 2022 while using a GoWise Pressure Cooker.
The incident specifically involved a GoWise Electric Pressure Cooker (Model Number CYSB130-160B and Item No. GW22637).
According to the lawsuit, she was using the pressure cooker normally when she was able to easily twist open the lid while the pressure cooker was still under pressure.
When she opened the lid, pressure trapped within the unit caused “its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected” and onto her body, resulting in “serious and substantial burn injuries.”
Her lawsuit blames GoWISE for advertising the “lock pin,” a safety feature which failed to actually lock the lid until it was safe to open.
She accuses the manufacturer, GoWISE USA LLC, of selling a defective kitchen product that is unsafe for its intended use.
She claims that the pressure cooker is defective because “the lid of the pressure cooker is removable with built-up pressure, heat and steam still inside the unit.”
Her lawsuit was filed against GoWISE USA LLC on May 20, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (Cleveland Division) — Case 1:24-cv-00892.
