June 17, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed against Amazon.com and Midea America Corp. by a man who was burned by a pressure cooker.
The plaintiff, Roice C., is a man from New Mexico who purchased the pressure cooker in 2017 online from Amazon.com.
In July 2022, he suffered serious burn injuries when he was able to open the lid while the pressure cooker was still under pressure, “allowing its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected,” according to his lawsuit.
The incident involved an Instant Pot Duo, which was sold by Amazon, manufactured by Midea America Corp., and Instant Brands Inc.
The lawsuit alleges that the Instant Pot Duo is defective because “despite claims to the contrary, the lid of the pressure cooker is removable with built-up pressure, heat, and steam still inside the unit.”
The plaintiff in this case is seeking damages resulting from the use of the pressure cooker, including serious bodily injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain, mental anguish, and more.
The Lawsuit was filed on May 16, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico — Case No. 1:24-cv-00482.
